Our friends over at Sound It Out Films have been producing killer live sessions and music videos with bands from all around New England for just over a year now. Today, we are excited to present a sneak peak of Sound It Out’s first mini-documentary featuring our favorite indie-rock trio, Jake McKelvie & The Countertops.
We caught up with Sound It Out Films director and editor, Eric Walker to learn more.
Spark & Fizz: The JCM&TOPS mini-doc will be Sound It Out Film’s first foray into a longer format, what brought you into the documentary game?
Eric Walker: Sound It Out sessions have always been about capturing more than just a performance. When I film the sessions I hang out with the band for an entire afternoon, sometimes the entire weekend, so that I can include b-roll and footage that reveals the personality behind the bands we work with. Documentaries are the next step in taking that concept further.
S&F: How did the Countertops become the focus of your first documentary?
EW: Because the ‘Tops are not a typical indie band, every member is interesting in their own way.
S&F: What are some music documentaries that have inspired you throughout the years?
EW: Literally, all of those old BBC “Classic Album” DVD’s I watched back in high school. I went to school for journalism and I love getting the behind the scenes story.
Check out the trailer below and keep your eyes peeled for the full documentary coming this summer!
